Trust the Journey

Hello from the studio.

So, here I am, surrounded by fairy lights and paint, sat at my painting desk watching the baby birds on the feeder right outside the window in front of my laptop, ready to write my first blog post in what seems like an age. The air is stormy and humid, it’s June, and I’m finding it hard to understand where half the year has gone as we continue our journey through life with Corona Virus.

In the beginning, we practised being hopeful and navigated these uncertain times with a tiny steps, feeling our way along tentatively. There were days where we settled into it all with acceptance, but others were harder. Learning to trust the journey has been a profound lesson for me these last few weeks, learning to let go and let life be as it is. When I felt afraid, I’d count our blessings and practise gratitude for all we had.

I’ve found myself turning to my paints more and more during these weeks and the comfort of this tiny shed became, and still is, a place of true escape and solitude. I have never been more grateful for it than I am now.

I’ve noticed (and I’m sure you perhaps have too) how my work has changed over the last three months; it’s become looser, brighter, and I’ve started to add written words to inspire and bring hope. I’m using watercolour paint these days too, after many years of using acrylics I am now loving the translucent, alchemic magic of these beautiful paints. I work into my art with Neocolor crayons, a fine grey liner pen and watercolour pencils. These paintings are nothing like my older work, but I love them. Nature too, seems to be having a profound effect on my art as I weave birds, tangled leaves and flowers into my work.

Trust the Journey is a brand new original watercolour painting and I just love the colour palette in this piece! I’m so excited to be releasing the artwork this Friday (19/06) to my mailing list subscribers. I always let them know first about any new paintings or sales I’m hosting before I announce it on my social media.
